There once existed a fabulous and far-flung icon-crafting competition by the name of Pixelpalooza. Obviously, I was gung ho about the whole enterprise, driven by the desire to creatively push pixels and possibly snag prizes (and not necessarily in that order). There was, however, a particular year that I found myself having trouble deciding just which subject to approach and iconify for my Pixpaloo entry. That's when fate stepped in and made the decision for me.
Without going into all the gory details, my normally happy indigo iMac one day stared at me with despair on its formally happy face. On, no ... Could it be? Alas, yes. A VIRUS! I didn't know how long it had been there, I never figured out how it got there, but it suddenly made its presence known, and how. Much, oh, so very much data was lost, and even though the good Doctor Norton was able to save the patient, poor lil indigo carried the scars from that day forward.
As you've certainly guessed by now, I chose this unfortunate infectious incident as the subject matter of my icon set. But rather than simply throwing together a pile of virus-ish images I attempted to also tell a story. And as inspiration for telling my story I turned to a rather well-known and well-respected storyteller, ye olde Bard himself.
Unfortunately, neither my pixels nor my tale moved the judges and I neither won, placed, nor showed. Maybe they thought Francis Bacon had actually created the set. Whatever was the case, someone recently made mention of this thing about which I'd forgotten and it seemed to me like something to bring back to the stage for one final engagement. So without further ado ...

Man that icon set brings back memories. I also miss Iconfactory's Pixelpalooza contest. Having ben hit by Sevendust myself (thankfully I found it quick enough to prevent any damage), this set really made me smile during that contest - Act I in particular.

Whatever happened to the rest of your pixelated pleasures?
I only have about 10 sets of your creations...
(Oh, and shamelessly self-advertising myself here, you can grab all my 8-bit sets here: http://www.worldofkaos.com/yindex.php?subaction=showfull&id=1139826365&archive=&start_from=&ucat=1& )
Have a nice one, my fellow iconist :-)

Thanks to all you kind cats for your kind comments regarding this walk down pixelled memory lane! Kaos, it's my opinion that few of my sets aged terribly well, and, besides, they're all over the place anyhow! There's probably not a Mac user on the planet utilizing any of my earliest icon sets, meanwhile Windows users are seeing them for the first time at sites which have transformed them into downloadable GIFs ... sites eaten up with banner ads with which they generate monies ... monies generated via the work of other people ... but I digress.

Thanks, Mr. C :-)
Brian; I'm utilizing your iconsets, but I think that's because I refuse to upgrade to OSX...
Oh, and I'm collecting those ancient 32x32 8bit pleasures from the bestest and most known iconists just because...

Well, guess who! I haven't had a laugh this good for years with the little cute icon story. That's the best iconic description of SevenDust I've seen over the years and you have a great sense of humor ;o)
