So that I don't meander into the morass that is "talking shop", suffice it to say that I employ Adobe Illustrator for all my vector building purposes. That, however, was not always the case. For many, many (many!) years I used Macromedia FreeHand. Sometime during that stint I experimented with duplicating and manipulating simple, abstract shapes until I'd crafted a few entities best described as "angelic". Unfortunately, neither FreeHand nor my Mac's CPU could handle what I'd created. On a good day on-screen rendering moved as slow as molasses, and on a bad day it came to a screeching halt. But with much patience I did manage to amass a few angels, and here are three I like best:

tiny social art

If you're a Facebook frequenter who also happens to have a yen for the lowly picture element, it would behoove you to investigate the simplistically yet appropriately named Pixels. Create something. Share it. Speak your peace about someone else's creation. Hear the masses speak about your own. And, by all means, be nice. Brothers and sisters, if we can't come together over a pile of polychromatic pixels, what can we come together over? (It seems to me it would be obvious that the pixellations seen here are mine. But in case it's not, they are.)

in absentia

Friends, Romans, blog visitors, I'll be away from my virtual post next week. I'm taking advantage of a curious mixture of serious business and monkey business to reward myself with a 7-day blogging break. With my return I hope to bring you a few glad tidings of cool newness. See you soon!

Daisy ... Daisy ...

For its year 2001 icon creation competition, the Iconfactory, being in a Kubrikian state of mind, chose to apply a suitably cinematic theme to the proceedings. I was asked to create a pertinent design for a Pixelpalooza tshirt that would be given to the contest winners as well as be made available for purchase. No, there's nothing particularly groundbreaking or earthshaking about the art. But, dangit, is that not some of the mostest cleverest copy you've ever read?:
