locomotion

I once took a long distance trip by train. I can't recall the exact length of the ride, but both the going there and the coming home again began in the afternoon and ended the next morning. Besides meeting interesting strangers on the train, I got to better know the people with whom I was travelling and also found them a fascinating batch. The experience was surprisingly similar to those cinema scenes of train travel from days gone by - except I didn't have one of those curtained bunks and had to sleep in my seat. The only real negative of the ride was the food. I was full of happy anticipation as I entered the dining car for the first time, but the repast was pricey and absolutely atrocious. A kind acquaintance with wise foresight was similarly dismayed and shared with me some of the snacks she'd packed. A lovely time it was! I must do it again. Why haven't I done it again?

For some reason that illustration reminds me of Soul Train...but more awesome. Maybe the flowing organic lines to it...

Ah, memories! The best television station EVER was a local independent UHF outfit which debuted in the early 80s. Every Saturday a six-hour movie marathon (b&w Tarzan then B-grade monster/horror then 70's chop sockey) was followed by the Soooooooooooooooooul Train!

Love the art, definitely hate train food!
